Stupid Turbo Trainer Question

Been a bit injured/ill/knackered recently so considered buying a turbo trainer. Trouble is, all the pix of turbo trainers on the tinterweb (e.g. wiggle and amazon) show road bikes. My dumb question is... will TTs work with MTBs or do you have to have skinny tyres on? Ta muchly.
