Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think most things are "smart" compared to a dumb trainer! Anything which connects to a laptop etc via bluetooth has some degree of "smarts" built into it I suppose.

So on MyWhoosh on the social rides, they seem to have robo small groups of three riders, and I'm guessing they ride at steady paces (eg 1.7, 2.0, 2.2, 2.5), they all have names/nationalities that present possibly as actual riders but aren't. They're quite useful as you can draft them and don't get burned off like occasionally you do with real groups.

It's just as well as on the group rides/social rides, the actual riders often seem to treat them like races and tend to just burn past everyone and rarely work together (I did manage to work with one French guy for 20-30km taking it in turns), which is frustrating. I do miss the Zwift fences and leader going "ok stay together as a blob" or "ease up while we wait for this group".

But question is, while Zwift has the companion app and the talking via messages AND Discord (although I've not figured that out yet), MyWhoosh has MyWhooshLink which doesn't seem to do anything, messages come up, but as the link app doesn't link I can't access them as I ride. Anyone figured that out yet?

And also is there any Discord linking ability? How easy is it?

I'm not using (nor intending to use) MyWhoosh for social rides as such. At the minute I'm just doing the introductory training rides which are quite fun. But I did keep getting messages popping up, as per here:

I clicked on them a couple of times and they were all along the lines of 'Hell, yeah!' and 'Let's do this!' so I am assuming are from the steady supply of fake/bot riders.

As a matter of interest, how busy are the social rides?

Regarding discord, I may have got it wrong but as far as I know it’s not so much that you link discord to Zwift. It’s that teams set up a discord server, and when you join a team, you get sent the details of how to access their server. For example, for WTRL Team Time Trials on Zwift, the team captain will say on the team’s facebook/messenger group ‘join the server 10mins before our race start time, so we can go through what we’re doing’ etc.

If there is a way to actually link the two in their respective settings, I don’t know how to do it anyway.

I've been having fun and games with the settings today. I'd added a Training plan to my Calendar but it didn't seem to work. A couple of days later i added the same Training Plan. Oops. I ended up with a messy Calendar with duplicated stuff all over the place.

I eventually worked out how to delete the extra ones - one by one. The ones in the past I couldn't delete. In the end I had to reschedule them into the future at which point I *could* delete them. It's full of these little not entirely intuitive quirks, isn't it?

Overall, I'm loving it though.

I like the 1.15pm group social rides every day, normally about 24-25km, with plenty of small pace groups to jump between, so can normally do in less than 45 mins.

I haven’t tried them but this is a short video about 3 other free Zwift alternatives.

Doing the social rides and they seem like mini races, riders not really forming pelotons and often just riding you off the wheel. Still good but missing the true social rides a la Zwift. Anyone up for some follows on MyWhoosh?

Got something to say?

About This Thread

MyWhoosh is the freebie, UAE endorsed, copycat clone of Zwift. Now that Zwift is 17.99 a month, who, like me, made the jump over and found there was enough to keep interest...? I can't be the only one right?? There was so many people on it over Xmas that they pretty much took the server down.

And yes it is different enough to merit its own thread...
