Found this thread - and despite it being a decade old, as and it chimed very strongly with me, as vegetarian, tea-drinking, high mileage (until 6 weeks ago - when injury struck) 35-40 mile a week runner, who has flirted with mild anaemia for the last 5-6 years on and off.

And same as the (no longer here) D2D, my doc says it's all fine, and nothing else at all in two sets of blood tests to concern me (more like go away why are you bothering me). Also since I've been injured and unable to run, my haemoglobin and RBC values have moved a little upwards, so haemoglobin is now just over the normal threshold. My iron reserves are normal it seems too.

But - as with D2D - it affects my ability to perform at top end (and it feels ever so slightly different to normal fatigue in racing, and I definitely recover less quickly if I go into the red in a race) and leads to erratic times across distances. Anyone else suffering from it, and anyone else got tips on management? I'm on iron as it is.

What's your ferritin value ? Runners can have symptoms with low-normal ferritin.

Vegetarians have to check their ferritin, B12 and Vit D.

From a biological point of view humans are carnivores.

Omnivores.
I am actually much better on the anemia front since being vegetarian, which is about 30 odd years now.

What iron are you taking?
And what is your ferritin and haemoglobin like?
Are you a vegan?

Yes eggs and dairy. All my vitamins/mineral levels are normal. Haemoglobin, was just under the

"accepted" level, and after 5 weeks running just over. So 126 ->131 (and 130 being the accepted minimum I think). Been veggie for 34 years now, running wise 28000 miles in 15 years.

Iron supplements yes, have b12 and D in my cupboard, but to be honest on the latter I'm outside so often that, I don't really worry there.
