Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The key omission from the article is that you need guidance when changing running style.

Even with the best coaching I have picked up injuries through poor form. Imagine if I thought it was as simple as transition shoes?
If anyone just buys a new pair of inov8s, I think they will get injured, lots.

I hope I'm wrong.

Actually, scrub that, it doesn't actually show the heel drop. Looks v. similar to the poster I was thinking about though. Soz. As you were. Where's the "delete post" button?! X

BVR, I went from Saucony Pro Grid Omni 7s (a real monster cushioned shoe, though actually I got it because it was less bouncy than the Brooks Pillow Cushion Buster or whatever it was that the shop recommended!) to Inov-8 Roclite 285 (very similar to F-lite 230) pretty minimal without problems. It wasn't really a conscious decision - I was wearing it for off road, I liked the chunky Inov-8 Mudclaws that I had worn for hills n mud and these were my "all rounder" trail and road shoe. I just grew to love them. Now I'm a 100% Inov-8 stable and haven't run on a cushioned shoe (unless you think the F-lite is cushioned) for 2.5 years.

I really want to find this Inov-8 heel drop poster. eL Bee - do you know where it might be, on Inov-8.com perhaps? Cheers, :-)G

Has someone posted this one already. Interesting read about the transition from cushioned shoes to 4mm heel drop (minimalist) http://www.runblogger.com/2011/03/new-science-on-running-barefoot-vs-in.html#

You shouldn't generalise BVR. I just picked up a pair of Inov-8 at the end of 2009 and certainly didn't get injured, or even feel a twinge.

IMHO the advice to make sure your foot lands under the body, with slightly soft knees, and whatever you do don't push off is sufficient as a starting point. The more complex stuff can come later.

interesting links BVR & :)G

my form usually feels better just putting on more minimal shoes, is especially noticeable with the plain 4mm vibram cherry huaraches, they have the best ground feel of anything I've tried, the feet in the breeze aspect may contribute too.

Please beware

It is the man not the shoe
TRansition is not a proved technique
Shoes can actually hinder perceptual change

Gosh this thread has wizzed on a bit, I commented yesterday about runnerbean running in vffs and I have had to read 3 pages to catch up again. Cabletow info noted about the shoes, will look into 195 and Bare xlite, are they both inov8? Why do you think they would be better than Vffs, pumps, hyperspeeds etc?

both inov8's yes
the 195 is a 6mm heel toe differential, (one arrow) the bare x lite is a zero differential.

The shoes are responsive, built on a wider last and hard wearing.

The 195 is my new favourite shoe (no longer the adizero pro) the bare x lite I have not yet run in

If you want to get people to watch you running - you need to video yourself using your mobile phone or digital camera. Side on, full length for a few strides, is sufficient. Use a cloud storage system as discussed here

And share the file with a coach or coaches for constructive comment, either in private or on the thread if you dare.
