eL Bee!
NE - I'm the same! It was genuinely still fields when I first joined up, but in so many ways the spirit of the fledgling site lives on, and Sir Fetch has managed to keep it that way even though there are now 1,121 times as many users as when I first logged in, and an almost infinite number of added functions!
And for those of you who haven't yet met him, Fetch is a properly lovely chap!!

I was just thinking (unusual I know), and this is the only site I use (or know of) that actually has a very real and human face - I think that's what sets the site apart from any other. So thanks Fetch, you brighten my day each and every day.

Fetch (and Fetchies) as I like geeky meaningless facts, what about (if it doesn't already exist somewhere) an average WAVA section on race performances, that could be per month or per year?

Fetch – how do the econs of the ‘no ads’ approach work out? I can see a conversation that goes along the lines of:
Advertiser: so, I’m a potential advertiser on your site. Tell me, how does your user count look?
Fetch: well, I have 80000 active users, on average I get 5000 of those using the site each day.
A: OK, so you’re saying I have a relatively narrow but very keen target audience of 5 – 15000 users per week?
F: yes, but I have to admit that the majority of the frequent users have their Ads turned off in return for paying a modest annual ‘membership’ fee
A: Oh, thanks for your time. Bye……

I've made a suggestion of a "Donate" button which does nothing, doesn't turn off the ads, for folk who don't mind (like me!) instead of a subscription which turns off the ads.

I'd always assumed that the advertisers dealt with the parent company not Fetch himself... and that most bought a package that might include RW too either online or in print. If there are some advertisers that advertise only on this site I'd be quite surprised but I should add that what I know about advertising sales could probably be written on the back of a stamp and still have room for my blog alongside it
