The letter says that the site will continue, and I trust my boss in that. Whether it has a business model that works or not, it does not make sense to shut it down. Although we may not have the volume of users that some of the bigger sites have, the loyalty of Fetch users has definitely given us a reputation and a fascination within the company. I don't imagine that voluntary subs will cover the entire costs, but there are other options that can help cover costs, like direct mailouts, affiliate schemes, game sponsorship, and others. I DO NOT believe the site will go away.

If nothing else, I would image that having a userbase that will voluntarily hand over a reasonable amount of money just to see the site continue will generate some interest anyway

I honestly believe you Ian, but as an accountant myself I fear in current climes that if nothing accountant gets to make the choice, closing it and saving money would be the logically choice.
Thankfully, us accountants don't actually rule the world.
Yet.

How is the t-shirt over-priced? You'd pay in the region of £20 for a technical t-shirt, making it a £30 donation/subscription for the site. That seems perfectly reasonable to me. £2.50 a month.
