1 minute and 34 seconds .. by the time your central nervous system is aware as to what the hell you are doing it'll be too late ! Hmmm. OK, I think my money is on you giving it a bloody good run for its money. I think I might make a 1:39 if the windows in the right direction. |

I can say for sure that I've never seen 1:3x on my PM! One thing though - the shorter and harder the workout, the longer the warmup. And for some reason when doing shorter reps I find the second one goes easier than the first. I'd want to be warmed up to the point of well dripping with sweat before this one.

Sidebar updated and well done CW. Interesting to see the stars of the Indoor Rowing world have rubbed shoulders with some of you lot. I did a 1:41.8 500m test in September. Haven't tried again since becuase it really hurt! I sometimes see 1:3* when I'm doing 250m reps and I did a 100m a while back which was all under 1:40 but not for long enough to be meaningful. That's quite a good target to aim for Lammo. |

Not sure when I last tried a 500. Not a great lover of sprinting. Not big enough. Hurts my back ! ... maybe we should all give one a go ! 😀 |

It wasn't exactly rubbing shoulders, but I queued up for registration at BIRC 1998 behind Steve Redgrave. He was built like a building on legs, I came up to his shoulder. That year BIRC was held at a the Rivermead Leisure centre in Reading, which is tiny( better.org.uk ) ; a far cry from more recent prestigious venues. (I have done a few flat out 500s for joke events at the end of a regional competition, but I remember a few monstrous gym types took these more seriously than the official 2k or 2.5k races, and had helpers to stand on the erg feet to keep it grounded!) |

Redgrave was doing the London Marathon one year when I was in it. He is, as Oranj says, huge ... proverbial brick outbuilding doesn't do him justice ![]() |

My first half marathon at Royal Parks back in 2009 I got totally starstruck when I (literally) bumped into James Cracknell milling around before the start. He's a unit too. I guess they all are.

It does help to have a certain physique. The guy who came round to service my C2 a couple of years ago was about 6 ft 5, upside-down triangle torso, legs to his armpits and wingspan of a Boeing. I, on the other hand, have inherited the family build of pudgy pear-shaped torso prone to paunch, and short arms and legs. Mother of Muttley cheerfully accepts the blame.

The C2 log seems to be playing up again. I hope Mousey can fix it soon.😉
