I have a .gpx file of a route (35 miles) I have a 910xt (ant stick communication) today both garmin express and garmin connect seem to be working OK How on earth to I import a .gpx file into garmin if I haven't run it yet ? I've tried improting it as a .gpx activity but that didn't work - there are no time stamps. So what have I missed ? I've tried googling, but all the answers seem to be plug in as usb - but computer doesn't see 910xt that way, only charges it |

Sure it can see it that way. Same with an Edge 520 or a 920xt which normally communicate via bluetooth but will happily talk via USB.

I have achieved this before, not for a while though. Think I may have used base camp which is ANOTHER piece of awful Garmin software. Have you imported the gpx to Garmin connect and see it as a course there? If you can do that you should be able to then send it to your watch... try this connect.garmin.com Not numpty at all this is far harder than it should be! |

I do the 'course' thing probably twice a year - agree with JD's last para 100%.

JD - if I try that import button it just says some activities can't be created ( ie the only one I'm trying) base camp gives me an error message too. I think there may be a problem with the file so going to see if I can import it onto here and see it first........... |

I can import the route into Fetch OK, tried re-exporting as tcx file instead and that didn't upload either

In the past I have converted files with an Edge and then imported them (seems weird but the Edge does something funky to make them compatible). If you want you can email me the file and I'll see if I can convert it.

I think I only ever achieved this using Training Centre and Ant Agent.

Grep, there are some Garmins which communicate only by ANT+ stick and can't do anything but charge by USB. The 910xt is one of them. Basecamp should do it. Also, the directions in this post forums.garmin.com telling you a folder to put the file in which should transfer it to the 910xt when you run Garmin Express might help (or not, it's an old post and I don't know if it still uses those folders). I really think Garmin left the ANT+ watch users out to dry when they dropped Communicator; they had no choice because browsers won't support the Communicator plugin any more, but if you don't use Connect website for everything, some tasks are really difficult on those devices now. |

Then you will have to go and run the route I don't have my ant stick on me, otherwise I could try the same thing... |
