If it's literally "slightly" more downhill it won't make any difference. Ignore it and concentrate on what you can maintain without burning out. If anything you should be making less of an effort in the first half because gravity will do some of the work. It's downhill for everyone else as well.
Likewise there's no strategy needed for the hill at the end as you should be running flat out anyway. Do some hill training sessions and sprint past the people that can't do hills

Yeah, if it's not a big difference I'd not worry too much - you'll naturally go slightly faster as it's a bit easier.

ok, that all makes sense. Will go for that then. Have been doing quite a bit of hills, so hopefuly will help at the end. Thanks so much for all your advice getting really excited now!!

Yes if you run to effort you will naturally be a bit faster downhill, just see how it feels. It's your first race so make sure have some energy left for the end if it's a bit uphill. I'm sure people are more likely to enjoy their first race and try it again if they come out of it feeling they could do better next time, rather than completely broken!

thanks so much for your encouragments. my main concern is early burnout so will definitly try my best to follow the above advice. I will certainly let you know how it goes!
Now I am now just wondering about warming up, I live about a 5/10 minute run from the begining of the race, would it be a good idea to run there as a warm up. (will have somone to take me home after!)
Is 5/10 minutes enough how long before should you aim to warm up so you don't loose the benifit before the race??? am aiming to get my race number the day before so won't have to do that on the day.

Warming up before is a good idea that I frequently don't do, arriving maybe 15 minutes before the start. You won't cooldown too much but it should allow panic to subside. And give time for a loo visit. Unless it's terrible weather in which case you just stand about for longer getting soaked and /or frozen! It's a decent idea to wear more clothes before the start: decent stuff if there's someone to give it to or somewhere to leave them, a throwaway shirt if not. A bin bag if it's really bad (tip: remember to cut a hole for your head in it ).
A mile slowly would be good, don't even run it all but maybe a few short faster bits 20-30m near the end. The people at the sharp end might do 3 miles at pace: ignore them.
Fat tulips three zones sounds good: be aware that virtually everyone starts too fast so I'd suggest standing further back than you think you should be (your suggested pace would put you just behind halfway, maybe go about 3/4 back?).
And above all, enjoy it :-).

I'd agree with what Dvorak says - running there gently if you are that sort of distance sounds good, I tend to do a lot of jumping up and down at the starts to keep the nerves at bay! Do try and rein yourself in for the first chunk of the race - it's so easy to set off too quickly, and then it all gets very hard very quickly. Enjoy it - you never run your first one again

well, thanks again. All advice cerefuly read and taken on board. I wouldn't have though of the bin bag!
I will try a max to keep reined in at the begining, and start further near the back of the pack than from the front!
as you say Fat tulips zones sounds good, gonna go for that, and keep and eye on the pace too maybe! thanks again so much, will let you know how it goes!
As always I come up with another question at the end.
When I'm trying to run fast I listen to a song on constant repeat which gives me a good rythym, presumably you are allowed earphones during the race!?!, (going to have to make sure battery charged cos can't run wothout music!!!) p.s. how do you insert smiley's??
