My 'big' new thing last year was learning to touch type via a free online site. Progress was fast, but although I still do at least fifteen minutes a day my accuracy has suffered as my speed has increased. BUT it is really addictive - there must be all sorts of, er, 'useful' things you can do online that are also fun. And legal.
