Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Tonight's listen is Gonna take a miracle by Laura Nyro and Labelle

Bobby Gillespie name-checked this and another big fave of mine East of the River Nile by Augustus Pablo in a magazine interview - it might have been the one the Observer used to do. Good taste has Bobby

Really struggle to divorce Van the Man (pun not intended) from his music. Which probably means I don't much like the music I guess.

I listened to Astral Weeks years ago, didn't much like it and never bothered with anything else Van Morrison had done. Reading this thread made me think I should give it another go. And...yeah, I haven't changed my mind. His voice is really grating, and that's before you even go near the twinkly easy listening piano and the pipes and flute and all that *folk* nonsense. To be fair to him I have also given Veedon Fleece a listen this evening, as that was recommended. And no, that didn't change my mind either...

Van Morrison is an odious old toad but as a young man he made some truly astounding music

I saw him live in thd late 90's (I think) and he had young Daniel O' Donnell singing for him :-O

'You: O'Donnell! Sing for me! Sing for me boy!'

(I'm picturing that bit in Lord of the Rings where Denethor makes Pippin sing while everyone else goes into battle)

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
A spin-off from the 50 New Albums in 2023.

Some Fetchies have been mentioning or revisiting some of the classics, so not necessarily a new album to them and definitely not a *new* new album. As such, I thought we could have a new thread to discuss such classics.

Already mentioned:
Van Morrison Astral weeks
The Beach Boys Pet Sounds

I've been wondering, depending on whether there's any demand for it, that participants might each suggest a classic album (per month?) so that t...
