Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Someone else can explain WAVA

Its an age grading thing comparing you to the rest of the athletes in the country at various distances

Now I blame Ms Radcliffe for my rubbish WAVA
She is too fast

D2D - You should be happy with and proud of your marathon time. The marathon is a tough race. Aiming to fulfil one's potential - what on earth that actually means - is all well and good, but I know plenty of good runners (much, much better than people on this thread) who were never content with their times because they always thought they could have, should have gone faster. Strive to improve, of course, but the future is uncertain, and you may well already have run your quickest marathon, so enjoy it.

You realise that doesn't make sense.

Hopefully anyone reading the thread will understand the points being made and be able to make an informed choice.

Now I fear I may not be able to PB in my spring marathon this year as I've already bagged 3 x 22 mile runs and a couple of 20s since the turn of the year, and there was a 20 and a 22 at the end of December as well.

So how's the poetry these days?

D2D - given you totally ignored my last post and given you are not really listening to anything critical I am not sure there is any point adding this but

1. the simple fact is you blew up before because you ran too hard in training
2. you got a pb this time because you were fresher
3. you are still badly under achieving at the marathon compared to your short distance ability.

As Davie says maybe if you listen to advise and train smarter you will get an even bigger PB.

Was that you sat on the floor in tears at Gloucester about 50 feet from the finish line ?

I understand you perfectly Daviec

But I am too much of a wuss to target just one marathon and I can only deal with a long run if its a race

(im going for a lie down cos the thought of five, no seven 20-22 miles runs is making me feel funnoi)

;)

"3. you are still badly under achieving at the marathon compared to your short distance ability."

There's absolutely no way you can say that about D2D specifically. It's true that given 100 people running D2D's times for shorter distances most will probably be able to go faster over the marathon (given the right training, etc).

It does *not* follow that this will necessarily be true in the case of D2D. Even if you factor out the possibility of injury due to the harder training (and you can't factor that out), you cannot know how D2D's body will react at 20 miles given a faster pace. It's just unknowable until she's actually tried it. There are people who have to be much further below their aerobic/anaerobic threshold than other people to be able to tolerate those last six miles without falling to pieces.

You do know that an aerobic / anaerobic threshold (or any other 'marker' in your range of running paces) is not a *fixed* thing, right themoabird?? With "training" they can be moved. A long way.
