In one street in one of the posher bits of Reigate, they put up their own giant set of lights from one end to the other. I don't know how they plug it into the grid or who pays for it...

Aberdeen's tree is gifted by Stavanger every year and got switched on last Thursday but our street lights were switched on by Vikings from Shetland, leading the parade down Union Street on Sunday. They were very impressive! pressandjournal.co.uk |

To be fair, the Vikings did set fire to the people of Aberdeen 1,000 years ago, so probably only right that they donate a Christmas tree and a few baubles in recompense. G
