Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Bronze medal in Olympic marathon , EarlyRiser...Surely that makes Spedding a great runner if only in British terms ?

Exactly. He was a great runner. But I read in Goater's book (a contemporary) how Charlie Spedding changed his training methods and as a result his performances improved from good to great! I'd like to know if that was really true. His book title "From Last to First" suggests so!

Adharanand Finn, who wrote Running with the Kenyans, has a new book out - Way of the Runner - in which he attempts to get under the bonnet of how Japan has produced so many good distance runners in recent years.

I liked the Kenyans book so may well give this one a go. There was an interesting interview with him on Marathon Talk recently.

Running Blind. Autobiography by Bob Matthews the blind paralympian runner. Very interesting insight not just into blind running but alos to how a blind person deals with all aspects of life. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I've just finished reading 'The Man Inside the Machine' the biography of Steve Edwards. I'd recommend it to any runner flyingrunner.co.uk
