Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Tho Bonfire night is celebrating a man being tortured and put to death/an attempted terrorist attack.

Everyone else's polls being unceremoniously dumped out of the listings to make space for ANOTHER stupid and boring "deathmatch".

Good point. Actually wasn't Guy Fawkes hung, drawn and quartered rather than burned? That'd make a fun Nov 5th celebration.

[It was 9-8 for Chuck Norris before it slid off. Firework sales may be restricted but they are hardly hard to get hold of. I expect Lewes will blow up Nicola Sturgeon this year. Just read that they always burn a pope as well.]

I was inderbthe impression that the big thing about Guido was that he was Catholic and deserved to be burned alive for that alone.

Halloween is Yank nonsense. I don't mind it though.

[He was one of a bunch of Catholic terrorists. Whether being a Holy Roman at the time was on the naughty list, I still think it a bit grim that hundreds if years later we still mark and celebrate someone's death by torture]

Trick or Treat is Yank nonsense, Guising is a long-established Scottish folk tradition.

Guy Fawkes was sentenced to be hung drawn and quartered but broke his neck on the noose so escaped the next two parts. We celebrate the escape of the King from assassination rather than the execution of the terrorist.
