Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

There is a story about one of the holiday island resorts in the Med that I heard years ago on Radio 1 - I think it was Corfu but I couldn't swear to it.

The runway was on flat land but high up with the end over a cliff with a sheer drop to the sea.
Whilst taking off with a full complement of passengers, the captain felt that the plane wasn't getting full power despite pulling on the throttle to its full extent. As the point of no return approached, he and the co-pilot discussed aborting the take-off but chose to proceed...
The plane accelerated but failed to take off before the end of the tarmac, causing it to drop sharply over the cliff edge before eventually rising, accompanied by cries of distress and outrage from the passengers and crew.

At which point the pilot looked down and saw his packet of cigarettes wedged against the throttle leaver preventing it moving to full power...

Rumour had it that for some years afterwards, pilots continued to imitate the "Corfu Drop" simply for the horror induced by the cliffside drop....

Yes indeed Duchess, flying is fine. In fact even plummeting out of the sky like a stone is no problem. It's the sharp stop at the bottom that'll get you.

National Blood Service -again. I have a card with an appointment on it for next Monday at Norfolk House in Manchester - I rang them as I haven't received the usual pre-appointment letter in the post to find I don't have an appointment booked at all, despite the member of staff giving me a card with it on. Maybe she forgot to actually do the transaction who knows -this is about the third time this has happened. I've rebooked myself till later on in April. I mind being pissed around especially after 85 donations

Wasn't Hong Kong (old) quite hairy with runway nestled between tower blocks?

Today, it's a petition that all the children at my son's school have come with. Asking everyone to collect an page full. It's because the local authority want to increase the parking charges outside the school. How dare they you may ask as most of us are drivers.

No. The issue is that not all the teachers can park on site and they will have to pay £3.20 per day. Oh no! How can someone on a teacher's salary pay that much? After all, why should they commute on public transport and pay a fare like everyone else? Car sharing? Now that's just asking too much!

In various places on the internet, I have noticed people saying should of and could of. Really hate poor use of English.
