Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Last time I dealt with someone I had that just get an ambulance your not helping ambulance NEVER arrived.

I teach first aid I should know what I'm doing but general public tend to interfere when they don't know what they are doing eg tell people to lean back when they have a nose bleed. Saying put someone in recovery position when they have head injury ffs shut you will kill someone

HOD, what's the reason for not using the recovery position with a head injury?

Duchess if i remember rightly a casualty with a head injury could also have a neck injury, so you should try not to move them about.

Mind you I am a bit rubbish :)

Think that's right Jono. I remember my cousin lettrasetting "in event of accident do not remove" to the front of his motorcycle helmet many years ago for exactly that reason :-)

Because the Head needs to be up to release the pressure, IF they go unconscious then the breathing will be more important then they will go into RP

Jono that it is partly right but if you have a conscious casualty they can tell you what's wrong. But putting a conscious person in recovery with head injury will cause the blood to rush to head putting them in danger

Ah yes, I suppose it's a logical connection, and I do know the risks of moving a potential neck injury. I think the exception to the rule of not removing helmets is if you're absolutely 100% sure the casualty isn't breathing, because without oxygen they're dead anyway.
