Sounds like something that twunt Gok Wan would dream up to squeeze a few more shekels out of the terminally credulous.

Fragile Do Not Bend
All the stories I hear along the lines of "so and so only took up running 2 weeks ago and now runs an ultra marathon every day" (may be a bit of an exaggeration).
I've been trying to be a runner for several years now but not managed to progress further than about 12K as I keep getting knocked back by injury, it's not down to a lack of motivation or determination. There was another such story on the radio this morning and they just serve to make me feel like an abject failure.
I also hate the quote "anyone can run" which I hear/read quite a lot. Well no they can't, not everyone is capable of running, some temporarily like me, some people will never have the ability to run.

If it wasn't exceptional, it wouldn't be a news story. Anyway Usain Bolt only ever runs a hundred metres or so and everyone calls him a runner.

Ok, today's news story was an exception but it certainly isn't unusual for someone to take up running then complete a marathon within a few years.
I'm just frustrated because there haven't been many things I've been inspired to try and achieve (run a marathon), so when I do find one, I don't want my stupid body to thwart me at every turn.

[I ran a marathon seven months after taking up running after more than 20 years of barely running a step. I wouldn't recommend it or regard it as an example that other people should follow. But I had to smile a bit when I ran my PB marathon and towards the end I hooked up with a young lad who told me that he was running his first marathon and hadn't done as much training as he thought he should. And he was gunning for a time that it had taken me seven years of training to get near :O He then scampered off ahead and left me eating his dust. And seeing my son's progress in comparison with my own early running experience has been interesting.]

It's really grinding my gears that this cold is taking longer to get over than my ultra. *blurgh*
[Sorry Fragile, I did my first marathon after 18 months of running and have just done a 55 mile ultra after about 4.5 years. I count myself as very lucky that I haven't had any significant injuries, I am however incredibly slow!]

Stuff on the news/tv about changing your utility company and insulating your homes and doing X,Y & Z to reduce your bills. There are only so many companies to move to and so many times you can switch. If you don't own your home you aren't free to add insulation or change windows of the numerous other things that bring costs down.
How about the Government start ensuring that prices aren't fixed and people aren't being ripped off instead of leaving the onus all on people who can't avoid being customers?
