Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I call people 'hun' too. Didn't realise it was so annoying!

There was a guy who worked with my ex husband who always insisted on calling me 'chick' when I phoned. A truly lovely bloke, which is the only reason I didn't verbally rip his head off. Mum used to call me 'chicken' when she was in a good mood (not often). I think that was a Geordie thing, but I never got it. I went through a minor phase of trying these terms out but they never sat easy with me, but that's me, not you. :-p

I just think of 'Hun' as going with 'The', Hon and illiterate (I know, it's just a term), Hunny as something Pooh Bear would crave, Sweetie as a Scottish confectionary, Darling - too much Champagne and not enough knickers...I'm certain there are others that I attach equally nonsensical meanings to.

I particularly dislike being called 'love'. I know it's a northern thing, but when it comes to people who phone me up to try to sell me stuff calling me love, they tend to get short shrift. The worst, though, is when students do it. They seem to think that if they are older than me, or male, or both, they can call me love. This does not happen twice.

I will clarify that I don't use 'hun' to people I don't know.
