Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

(it's probably less than the constant background beeping of medical devices in many real hospital scenarios, Chris. Imagine how annoying that is for people trying to get better in such places.

Sam could tell you more, he's done like properly scientific studying of this sort of thing)

[Yes, an actual intensive care unit is hideously noisy, and the noises are unpredictable enough to be impossible to block out. Avoid them if you can.]

Even our cardiac monitoring unit is a helluva loud beepy and bongy environment. A&E and ICU are much worse.

My wife usually does the hospital bedside stints when our daughter has been an inpatient and always cannot sleep as a result. On one occasion, I had to sleep in the underground car park (in the car, of course) as only one parent was allowed to stay with their child.

Stupidly enough, on that occasion, I forget that a work colleague lived a mile down the road and could have had a better night's sleep on their sofa!

Getting an answer wrong in DL when I'm heading towards being able to skip many repetitive lessons, particularly when all the comments agree that my answer is correct and DL's weird or wrong.
