Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Don’t give me that snide look. I did say that I was going have a bonfire and your choice about getting your washing in an hour and a half after I told you about it is your fault.

The BBC making HEADLINE STORIES to promote a Panorama documentary later today.
I don’t deny that the alleged kidnapping of a Dubai Princess is not be be dismissed, but there is bigger stuff happening in the world that would warrant the headline story.

I agree, ER, and the BBC have done it for ever, particularly for Panorama. But any newspaper puts the results of its own investigations as the lead story of the day, so I don't think I have a leg to stand on.

They are getting worse though, I think, at puffing up Panorama and other programmes as 'news headlines'. Or maybe I just notice it more now.

[^ Not without precedent: over forty years ago, an ATV/WGBH drama-documentary attracted considerable controversy.

Make up adverts on tv making ridiculous claims and backing up with dodgy statistics (78% of 60 people agree ... so not a big survey then!). I could go on 🤔

Yes that!
78% of the 60 people we sent a free product agreed... 🙄
