Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Although I don't like the Stop crying your heart out cover, it has resolved a long misheard lyric for me
I always thought it was "you'll never change my spinnaker" which I thought was a bit odd, but I couldn't hear anything else. Apparently it's "you'll never change what's been and gone". So there you go.

During lockdown, I've watched a few of the Brighton Marathon videos that Channel 4 did from 2013-2015. I couldn't believe the number of runners who elected to start in the fastest (red) corral that were finishing well over 4 hours. I think that red is sub-3:30.

OK, we all have our off days and pick up sprains but the number of runners who were clearly out of their depth was ridiculous. No wonder marathons like London and Brighton get course congestion when you get stuck behind these sorts of people.

Kitchen designers.

Months into thinking about our new kitchen, it struck me that the new sink has to be big enough to wash a large frying pan or pressure cooker easily. Why has no designer pointed that out? How many other things have we not considered that will prove to be quite important?

....and deep enough (our son’s kitchen has twin sinks that are neither big enough nor deep enough). One sink of the right size is perfect (with a drainer of course).....

Online training packages. Don't offer a mute option & subtitles if the option doesn't work :

I've now had to shut off my music, and listen to a training package that won't actually help me do my job, rather than reading (which would at least mean I absorb the info better) Grr.

Kitchen designers are not "designers". They are sales people who want to cram in every accessory they can without any thought of workable layout, miles walked up and down between fridge, sink and cooker etc. or how things are actually used.

Exactly. Whatever kitchen design drawing package they're using doesn't seem to show them what happens when the cupboard doors open! Okay yes, the look lovely when they're closed, but open that corner door and the handle's just going to take a chunk out of the door next to it!!

I have designed and built a couple of perfectly good kitchens with IKEA. Perhaps I'm better at this task.

The first question I want to ask is, how much stuff do we need to store and how easy must it be to access? The answers are 'lots' and 'very' but I need to quantify that a bit.

When it comes to cupboards vs. shelves, 'out of sight, out of mind' seems to be the driving principle, so we need shelves.

Our kitchen “designer” actually did a good job for us and made some good suggestions which we took up at not much extra expense. Maybe he is an exception.
