Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I press them loads just in case they think "woah, there's a shedload of people waiting to cross!"

[FDNB - whilst I do sometimes press the button, I tend to agree with your husband - I remember reading an article on the BBC last year saying that most of the buttons on pedestrian crossings are “placebo” buttons - certainly on busy crossings/junctions.

Mr J is a compulsive button pusher, and is one of those people who will push the button when it’s already lit.]

You mean like the traffic lights on crossings are placebo lights ""it's alright you don't really have to stop for the plebs on foot"

A major roundabout where I live has a zebra crossing five yards off one of the junctions. Makes it interesting speeding up to leave the roundabout then having to slam on your brakes because the pedestrians have priority!

We have one not too far away, postieboy. It's a job if you have to turn right into that road as it's just off an A-road. You can get one car's length between the zebra crossing and the junction itself and you can easily end up blocking the main road as a result.

I seriously have to question the Highways Team at our local council for doing things like this. They are also a local authority that recently introduced a 20 mph speed limit in all residential side roads.
