Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Just after this bit. [Gratuitous quote here - one of my all-time favourites, " Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it. "]

[" When I first heard his name, I said, just as you are going to say, "But I thought he was a boy?"
"So did I," said Christopher Robin.
"Then you can't call him Winnie?"
"I don't."
"But you said--"
"He's Winnie-ther-Pooh. Don't you know what 'ther' means?"
"Ah, yes, now I do," I said quickly; and I hope you do too, because it is all the explanation you are going to get."]

Which isn't quite what I remembered :-)

I'm getting 'just a bit miffed' at the feeding frenzy that happens on social media whenever anyone in the public eye makes a mistake (and no, this isn't about party-politics). Being famous doesn't protect against foot-in-mouth syndrome, and while some things really do need to be challenged, I'm not at all comfortable with the mob mentality that tears people to shreds.

[loving the WTP quote H. It reminds me of my favourite, but not quite so quaint, joke:

A ittle girl is sitting on her Daddy's lap. 'Daddy', she asks, 'where does Pooh come from?'
'Well', says Daddy, 'when we eat food our tummy takes all the good stuff that makes you grow big and strong and leaves the bits you don't need and then when we go to the toilet, the bits we don't need come out and are flushed away.'
Slightly perplexed the little girl responds with 'and Piglet?']

Jono.
I think the original pooh bear was left at London Zoo by Canadian soldiers after the WWI - the Canadian Regiment came from Winnipeg - it was their mascot, mind you after bringing the bear all the way over here they could have taken him home!

there again I could be totally wrong.

Back on topic.....

My derailleur falling off. Very literally ground my gears.

The thread on the bike frame appears to have been stripped - odd, since I've never had occasion to fiddle/tighten it, so I suspect it's been hanging by a (crossed) thread for years.

Can I get the resultant hole cleaned out, rethreaded and an over sized non-standard bolt to got through a derailleur hanger mechanism? Ain't gonna happen, and the bike is 12+ years old now.

News bulletins which end "...that's the news, our next at nine." I know what they mean, but it sounds clunky, and I don't like it.
