Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

HS2 to create a Northern Powerhouse, or a means to enable "Northerners" to reach London a bit quicker as devolving business and commerce out of London wont happen?

HS2 because it seems a woeful waste of money.

Northern Powerhouse because it seems to be meaningless.

The use of the concept of "privilege" to deny any opposing point of view in a discussion. White privilege, male privilege, western privilege, middle class privilege, straight privilege, whatever bloody privilege. What's wrong with accepting that other people have a point of view, that other people are entitled to have a point of view?

Because any other point of view that doesn't fit with the leftist, elitest, middle-class-ish, metropolitan agenda is considered totally out of order and unspeakably wrong these days. Unfortunately for these people, the silent majority who are largely sneered at and derided as uneducated dinosaurs (no offence dino) are beginning to have their say.

The wonderful Jonathan Pie (available on much of FB) has summed it up beautifully :-)
