What kind of stuff can I do when a) I can't run and b) have no gym/pool access?

Morning all,

Due to Patella Tendonitis I have been on the sick list since July, and won't be seeing the finish line of a parkrun anytime soon.

I have been doing some exercise bike work at home, but can only do 20 minutes (longer than that and the knee starts grumbling) at a sedate pace in the same gear. I have no other gym equipment at home apart from two hand-size dumbells. There is no gym or pool at or near work, so those aren't options.

I need to start doing something otherwise I might explode. Or just get larger as I have for sure not reduced my beer intake. ChrisHB mentioned 100 push-ups challenge. Is there other stuff like that that any of you guys do?

Ta.

The original physio did say, and I quote "If you were going to sit on the sofa and eat crisps for the next 20 years, I would just say leave it alone".

Tempting.

Wall walks, pike press, table inverted rows, planks, side planks, glute bridges, press ups, geko press up. That's just off the top of my head. Can you squat, or does your tendinitis not allow this? Google body weight exercise and callisthenics.

I've started walking some of my favourite short (up to 5 miles) running routes. Not the same but it's hilly enough round here to be challenging in parts. Would your knee be up to that? Walk part of your commute maybe?

I was going to suggest renting a Concept 2 if you have room for it but I don't think rowing would be the best thing for your injury!

Have a look at strength running and kinetic revolution, both of which have rehab sections, stretches/strength work

No squats Blade. I was doing an exercise with a ball and sliding up and down a wall but the specialist has said it is putting too much weight on the muscle.

Basically any load bearing involving the knee is out. Which does limit things. I will attempt the dreaded plank!

Sorry, last post. I can't get any more "proper" equipment into the house. The bike has me brushing up against the side of the spare bed, as an indication of the lack of room in our house :-)
