Vision problems when running

A friend (male, about 45, general good health, average weight) was on an easy run yesterday and after about 10 minutes got a 'bright light in both his eyes' which faded again after about 20 minutes. He could see it with eyes open or closed and otherwise says he felt OK. Obviously I've told him to get straight down the Doctors but I wondered if anyone here had come across this before? I've heard of dodgy vision at the end of a long run or after a really hard intervals session but never during a slow easy run.

I've never had it elsewhere, so I just avoid the canal when it's bright sunshine, or run with sunglasses. Not quite the same - but may be worth looking at the conditions that brought it about.
