Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Saw a kingfisher on the Nith yesterday right in the centre of town. It was in a tree and very visible for about four minutes until a heron chased it off.

Quite a few good sightings, but generally a very empty SWCP - today between Hartland Quay and Point. I assume most of the sea birds are out at sea, no longer needing land or cliffs for breeding & nesting?
And a lot of sightings as yet unidentified.
Like this one. Flew off from a fence post and across the valley. Silhouette similar to a kestrel in flight, but no hover. Once on the ground, was bombed by a few crows/jackdaws, but didn't move or react. These pics are from 4-500 yds away, so the best I can do.
Hen Harrier? Or something else?

It could be Um, difficult to make a definite ID. I also wondered about a Peregrine with the light washing out the chest markings? Peregrines will often sit on the ground for quite long periods. Or a Buzzard, they come in such a variety of colourings!

It was very white ff. With the naked eye, I was convinced it was a dead tree/shrub. No grey or stripes that I could see, even before the photo.
Buzzard - I've seen lots this week - but not a buzzard flight or silhoutte. The shape when taking off looked to be a kestrel, but thne looked very different as it landed.

Buzzards? I've seen one each morning as I go to get the newspaper, sat on a telgraph pole. Took the camera today. These are Devon rural roads remember. Grass down the middle, wing mirrors scratched by the thorn hedge either side!
This morning, I saw one flying along the road at low height towards me. Then saw another on a telegraph pole, but it flew off as I slowed down. Then 100yds later, another one and it also flew as I slowed. 1/2 mile later, another on a fence post, also flew as I slowed.

Will share a few photos later - of buzzards I have caught, flocks (near murmurations) of small birds and a host of warblers, chiff chaffs etc.

Quite a bit bigger - probably a similar size to the crows that were bombing it.

Next id problem? For me, anywhere. A flock of smallish birds, black in silhouette, but a few hints of white underside to wings. Not really a murmuration, they were more intent on flying to a place. These shots were taken either side of the raptor above.
And interesting, to me at least, how few of the birds are actually flapping their ings. Most are in wings closed flight mode. Suggests they only take a few flaps then glide/shoot through the air?

J2R - we do get otters. Although I’ve not seen one this year. But there’s time yet.
