They’ve made quite a nice job of it. I’d be thanking them, it’s an annoying task and clearing up is a pain!

This is more of a rant, perhaps I should take it to "gear grind"!

BBC News headline on an item about number of steps per day that bring health benefits.

bbc.co.uk

Nothing wrong with the research. Just the headline reporting. On the radio it was even worse. It was styled "you can do less exercise and still get same benefit". That is NOT what the research finds.

It finds that from 5,000, every additional 1,000 steps, up to 20,000 steps, bring you additional health benefits (it says 15% for each 1,,000, but I don't quite understand that). But the point is, research finds "more exercise is better, up to 20,000 and from a MINIMUM of 5,000.

But the headline turns it into, "You can do 4,000 less steps than the old recommendation of 10,000 per day...". Why is it that the news seems to take joy in pointing out that things that are good for you aren't necessary - walking, cycling, eating better, less alcohol, less sugar, fewer processed foods and additives etc.?

Grrr.
