Mr. Grumpy
That damn virus is what put a dampener on my event. Caught COVID mid July, then got a pull on my achilles by trying to play catch-up. Longest runs since then have been three Half Marathons and a 10k, all rescheduled from last year, and all in the last five weeks. Not the best preparation, but totally in keeping with my lack of marathon training build-up.lol

Loved the atmosphere and the crown… as to the run, i was bang in line with a 4-4.10 finish for a good 16 miles, then calves cramps started killing me rather suddenly. Ended up walking a good 10k before managing to run again for the last 3 miles

Actual time was utter shit, but considering it was my first, im happy

Hope everyone’s legs are on the mend, mine are still full of concrete this morning.

I had a look back at my Fetch log for my 2016 race on the old course, and the elevation difference is quite pronounced.

2021 Course
Elevation Asc 1255m, Desc 1219m, Range 80m
Route by Grade (6.7% flat)

2016 Course
Elevation Asc 146m, Desc 148m, Range 35m
Route by Grade (76.1% flat)

I think that might explain the state of my legs!

WTF? That must be mapping errors. 1000m of elevation is mountains, not just a few slopes.

The way people were chuntering on the uphill bits, you’d have thought it was mountains. 😂

It wasn’t *too bad* but definitely not flat as advertised.

Considering I'm still in plague recovery and I did Chester I feel disgustingly OK.

Quads a bit ouch and back glad of heat patches but nothing too awful.

Glad as I'm transport today and the trans Inc is 350kg so not the easiest thing to be pushing around.

Snowdonia marathon claims about 800m elevation. Bentham marathon was over 900 by my reckoning, it went over 400m twice.

Hope they can flatten it out a bit for next spring....

Yeah, it wasn’t flat - but the numbers do look bonkers! That’ll teach me to post before I’ve properly woken up.

My legs still feel like I’ve climbed a mountain though. That’s what comes from avoiding hills on my training runs!

Hasn't there been a relatively recent (within the last couple of months) change to how Fetch deals with elevation data imported from (certain?) watches?

For comparison, my data:-

2021 Elevation - Asc 221m, Desc 217m, Range 31m
2019 Elevation - Asc 173m, Desc 177m, Range 35m
2016 Elevation - Asc 150m, Desc 152m, Range 34m

So a definite increase in elevation from previous courses (as I indicated there would be when the City Centre loop was introduced), but not to the extent you thought Fergus.

Well done all.
