Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Ok, i'm not quite there just yet, still not allowed to run but i'm doing lots of exercises whixh is leading towards it.

After my physio showing my some excersies and talking through as to where she is leading me, i realised that she is trying to get me to run in the Chi/Pose style (is it same thing?) Funnily enough i had taken a bumch of old RW in to leave in waiting room and there was an article all about just that so i kept it. After showing it to physio she indeed said that is way forward for me.

The back problems i've had for nealry 5 months now have come from way i ran, and i have to change this, i have a weak core and glutes.

To me it's like learning to walk again, doing something you always thought was right and having to rethink things.

So my questions to all you Chi/Pose experts are

1. How can i help things along?
2. What can i do at moment, seeing i'm not allowed to run?

3. how difficult is it to change something like this?

4. how long will it take til i feel *normal* running like this?

Please keep it simplistic, go technical and i start gonig glassy eyed and lose interest......

thanks :)

If the Chi/Pose people can give some advice that we mortals who don't have degrees in biomechanics can understand I'd be very grateful too..and very surprised :-)

I'd like to do it too, I have a very dodgy hip and it's making it uncomfortable and unenjoyable to run

SB, follow these simple rules,

1. Keep the hips forward at all times
2. Run relaxed, feet and lower legs floppy when in the air, relaxed shoulders and arms
3. Arms at around 90 degrees, straight forward and back like pistons, but relaxed and try and keep your hands going from chest to waist, not too far in front of you.
4. A slight forward lean, like someone is pulling you from the chest with a piece of string
5. Land with a bent knee not a straight leg
6. The above should make you land front/mid of foot (not heal strike)

Don't try them all at the same time. Try starting off with the arms, keeping them going from chest to hips, stright forward and back, never too far in front. This will sort your foot position, and you can work on the rest.

There was a great article in the Gaurdian the other day, maybe someone will dig it out.

When you back running?

not sure Boab, at mo it's just the exercises til i'm *strong* enough

See all of the above sounds easy, but when you say run relaxed, then thats how i feel i *do* run, but clearly i dont hence all my problems.

the landing on front of foot thing puzzles me too, i've tried sprinting a wee bit to see if i can, it's not easy?

and what can i do in meantime seeing i'm not allowed to run, what can help me get used to doing all the the above things?
