Boab - yup think we are saying the same thing. You just explained it better I'm certainly going to give it a go though, seems to have worked with quite a few peeps!

Maybe over the winter some time, when there are not many races. Fortunately, or unfortunately, there are a lot of cross country racing to be done over this side of the pond during the winter and I plan to take full advantage
I've no problem with us comparing notes
I am looking forward to Ian et al's progress with this method of training. I am covinced that it works. Too many of us break into hard and very hard interval sessions too quickly and run way to fast too early. This approach basically teaches you how to train properly from the ground up.

Boab,
I think it is a very good training approach. My only issue with it in general it's lack of consideration for running technique:( but that is solved by using it with Pose method

J,
You're current approach to training, unless it's changed recently, has been many interval and speed workouts with very little endurance work. For the thread, can you give details of your training when, for example, you took part in the US Olympic trials? I appreciate you didn't know about POSE at that time, but for a comparison to Hadd, could you give us a 'typical' winter training week and a summer racing week?
Would be much appreciated.

I do nearly all my running at below 70% working HR ... at my peak, my pace at this heart rate had improved by 1.5-2 minutes a mile. The key for me was regular long slow runs ... I know it works but it's been hard to keep this going due to ITBS niggles.

I just don't feel comfortable running as slow as sub 70% requires just now. Everything I've tried to improve efficiency wise goes up the spout! I figure if it feels really easy then that's good enough. I guess the two LT sessions and the lsr are the key runs and the rest just improve your fitness generally.

Tizer,
Unfortunately that is a strong indicator that your running technique needs abit of a tune-up:( Never fear though you can learn to improve it. boab and I use the Pose method but there are others as well. What do you think of your technique at 70% WHR?

Dr Dan, it's another thread, but there are ways of redcing common injuries. I'll leave you to find them.
Tizer, you have to get used to the slow running, it is so important iof you want to carry ouy out this training properly. There are no shortcuts.

I like this thread.
It wasn't that long ago I was being shouted down from all angles (with exceptions of course) for encouraging people to slow down, build base etc. Has certainly worked for me (4:25 mara to 3:37 for eg) in the past, and continues to do so.
