4-5 weeks in to the HADD training for me and it's all going okay. Plenty miles and although a calf strain stopped me running for 9 days I'll be up to around 70 miles this week. A couple of double sessions this week has helped but very few runs under the hour and I think that's the key
All slow paced although I was out with the club last night and you know what it like when other folk pick up the pace...you just have to go with it:)
One thing though, I have struggled with the sub 70% max runs. I just feel my pace is so slow on them just now that it's difficult to maintain form and efficiency. So my easy runs are probably closer to 75% but once I improve and my pace is better for less HR I'll make sure I do a few sub 70's

The powerrunning article disputes the conclusions that Hadd drew from the study on rats. I don't think it disputes that Hadd's method works

Agreed SPR. The powerrunning article basically disputes that Hadd is a new concept. I am not aware that he has ever said that it is a new concept. I would imagine Lydiard is a massive inflluence on his methods. His only difference to Lydiard is that for his base training (or Lydiards conditioning phase) is that he make use of the modern technology of HRM's
P.E. I think we are saying the same thing Although 'Joe' was training for a marathon, Hadd would use this method for any distance runner, then specify once the base training was finished. And by endurance runner I would imagine that means anything from 800m and above. Similar to Lydiard who said that any athlete racing 800m and above would benefit from 100+ mile weeks during the conditioning phase. I believe his Olympic champions did just that

Just curious why you did the 2400m test starting at 130HR as opposed to 140bpm as hadd recommends?

hey J,
My Max HR is only 183, his runner that he uses as an example, has a max HR of 193. He suggests that you adjust accordingly and at the bottom of the document actually has the figures for someone with an max of 183
Regarding POSE, I was lucky to pick up POSE properly after I had ran Edinburgh marathon, so there was no emphasis on mileage or times etc. I am by no means an expert POSEr, but I think that I have become a better POSEr quicker becuase I run a lot. If that makes sense. Sure I drill, but I think, for me, I've learned and become more aware by actually going out and running.

Has Pose improved your ability to follow the hadd approach or vice versa? Have your 2400m tests improved since Pose method?

J, I haven't ran any 2400m tests since last year, so I can't answer that. I can tell you though, that POSE has enabled me to (touches wood for luck) run 110+ mile weeks and progress. I'm also much more aware of my running, my perceptions, I feel I have a fine tune button that I didn't have before.

Will be interesting to see your test results:) I am thinking about doing the test myself. Admittingly, I don't follow the hadd approach thoug:( When are you planning another test?
