Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

OK - I'll go for 3 posts in a row here.

I was thinking some more about the beats per mile and wondered if it might be useful for predicting race times. The product of beats per mile and race distance would be your total number of heart beats, and you could then divide by your typical race HR for that distance to get a race prediction in minutes.

I'm not willing to test this hypothesis, as I just tried it with this week's average beats per mile applied to the GSR and it gave me something scary. But I might look back at it retrospectively. If anything it could be a ball park figure in advance of a first race after a long block of training.

I've not been doing much in the way of warm-up on my training runs. I'm always running to a heart rate target so I bring up the heart rate in the first 1/4 mile trying not to overshoot and the pace is always slow at the end of the first mile. The second mile onwards is at faster pace and fairly repeatable until mile 8 or 9 when pace begins to drop.

My question to the thread: Does it matter on training runs and what is a good warm-up before a race? I might consider warming up before the Pleshey half this Sunday.

thanks Daviec :) Your bpmile graph was interesting with the general build up yet mine seems fairly constant despite me knowing I have made improvements hence the questioning! I guess its not terribily important unless im missing a trick on greater improvements that is! :D

Cog I'm at Pleshey too - I'll be in a green MacMillans vest (as per photo), so say hi if you see me. I'm doing a 6 mile "warm-up" ;) (I'm running it as part of my long run).

I know I'm making good progress when I ended up slightly disappointed by this morning's sub LT run. 4s/mile slower than my last, and 1bpm higher average but came in at a not to shabby 6.45/mile. This is my 4th consecutive week of 80+ miles, so I think I'll be due a cut back next week, which fits neatly with a mini taper for the Glasgow half.
