Hello, I have just purchased my first Garmin running watch and I know I have a lot to learn as I have only read the "quick start guide." One thing I noted already is that there are two ways to log training provided by Garmin: Connect and Training Centre. Apart from one being web-based and the other pc-based, are there any fundamental differences I need to know about? Is one better than the other? Should I ignore both and just log my training on Fetch? Or Somewhere else? Too many questions?
I will read the entire manual (I always RTFM!) but an early steer based on the collected Fetch wisdomery would be welcome. Looking forward to not having to deal with Polar Personal Trainer any more!

I use training center - but mainly as an initial download so I can load up to Fetch

I hardly ever use the Garmin Training Centre. It is needed if you do clever stuff like download courses to your watch, but Garmin Connect is all you really need.

Croc, you can upload to fetch without the Garmin TC.

Ermm... Well I have a 405. I put the dongle in the computer. It sychronises and sends to Garmin Connect all by itself. When it has done that I pull out the dongle.
In Fetch I click the link that says "Upload from Garmin" and it finds all the activities it thinks I want to upload and it is always right.
No Training Centre involved at all.

Actually I don't even use Garmin Connect. That happens by itself. If I want to rename or edit the activity in any way I will go to Connect, but not very often.

I don't use TC or Connect, I just let the watch sync then upload it straight to Fetch. You may need a browser plugin.

connect for mapping stuff, fetch for conquersize stuff and feeling good on league table, TC because I can't be arsed to take the software off.
just remember not to stop/start the watch at your door as there are some dodgy geeza's about. especially if you have expensive bikes!
