Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’m getting in a lather already worrying there’ll be no swifts this year. Hang in there. Your swallows will arrive. It’s nature and it’s inevitable. Believe heart

The good thing about the lockdown is I’ll not be risking ‘death by swifting’ this year as normal. How I’ve not crashed my car in the past while looking up instead of ahead is anyone’s guess :-O

Warbler fest on this morning's run. As well as the now plentiful Chiffs and Blackcap I also heard my first Whitethroat, Reed and Sedge Warbler and in the case of the Whitethroat got a view as well. The Reed Warbler (or maybe two Reed Warblers?) were in particularly fine voice, as though they were on a mission to announce their arrival and state their claim to my local reedbed. Looking forward to hearing them on a daily basis now.

I heard my first grasshopper warbler of the year today, in the field at the back of the school.

Saw a lapwing on our walk around the field by our house yesterday. Just the one, and wasnt too bothered by our presence.

I think I saw my first swallow this morning. Small bird, the right size and shape flapping to get up towards our high roof. Looking into the sun, so I mostly see silhouettes rather than details, but I'm almost sure it was.

Streamer tails are key jizz. Worth listening out for them too. Bit like a goldfinch and a quite vocal bird

I saw a lapwing this morning, our resident kestrel that lives down the road, and a whole flock of goldfinches. The bird song in the mornings is incredible at the moment.
