Hi all.
My daughter is getting married in a few months so I'm starting to pull together my father of the Bride speech. I'm comfortable with making a speech, and have some decent notes already, but wonder if any of you lovely people have any good one-liners or have heard any good speeches that I can plagarise? Many thanks

How exciting! I hope that the day will be a wonderful one for you all to treasure.
I have only done groom and best man speeches myself. I do remember my father-in-law "welcoming me into his world of females (wife and two daughters) and that even the cat is a 'she.'"

'A wise man told me that my speech should take no longer than it takes me to make love. So I've prattled on far too long'
And sit down.

Once upon a time there was a little sausage called Baldrick. Sausage? Sausage?!
And run away.

Alternatively:
Well I do not want to generalize the hotel, and as such, I do not go to say that the hotel is all bad, but the truth, is that the photos of the brochure, had been an illusion. we were in room 34. I do not recommend this room to nobody ..... The walls were dirty, the room did not have decoration, much less comfort. (if i pay good, i want the minimum) The WC was clean, however the towels had bad smell , but worse then that it was when the towel of supposedly clean bath, brought of toast a monkey! Yes a monkey!
The breakfast is weak and.....I asked to the lady make a toast and.... the answer was...."Sorry, no "
if you stay there....dont forget to visit the 5º floor to see the pictures in the wall !
I want to believe that the other rooms are well more pleasant, cleaner and comfortable. Unhappyly I do not have nothing to point out of good.
When I saw the website, I didnt wanted to believe that we had been in the same hotel… ! If you dont belive see for your self...

My dad threatened to say “ thanks everyone for coming, you’ve had you free grub so now bugger off” Fortunately he didn’t say it, but 30 years later, I have zero recollection of a single word he did say.

Probably the worst wedding I've been to was somewhat spoiled at the reception.
Apart from the bride's father turning up alone and not with his daughter (there must have been some reason for this), the service was actually very good. The groom also had a best woman which was different but still OK.
Then came the reception. It was a 'bring and share' sit-down which I have always disliked but, for less well-off couples, fully understandable. Except for what happened next. The top table got up and got their mains followed by tables 1-2-3. The desert was the same format except it was 3-2-1 after the top table. It transpired that the top table seriously loaded up their plates each time so that the last of the guests' tables virtually went without. I was on table 1, so was fine for the mains but got just a fairy cake for the deserts. It also happened to be one that my wife made!
Then, the father of the bride didn't want to give a speech. Neither did he stay to dance with his daughter. Saying that, the groom didn't want to dance with her either and the vast majority of the guests didn't stay long after the sit-down.
A well-organised wedding makes everyone happy and relaxed. From the bride and groom to the people at the back. Smutty speeches are uncalled for.
I'm sure your daughter's wedding, TnoP, will be memorable for everyone. I hope your speech is coming along nicely. I hope your daughter and future son-in-law will really appreciate your efforts and heartfelt tribute on their big day.

Thanks Surrey Phil for your really kind words (and everyone else for commenting) I do indeed have some heartfelt stuff to say - I'm positive already I will be blubbing like a baby - but it's also nice to put in a bit of humour. It's coming together nicely now so hopefully I get the balance right

@TnoP, I read with interest... I'll be in the same boat this time next year, with my eldest daughter.
My youngest daughter, will be easier, she is seeing someone from Nuneaton. So at that wedding (if he ever pulls his finger out), I shall just suggest how nice it must be for the Nuneaton crowd to be at a wedding where the bride and groom are not already related... and just stand back and see what happens.
You will be fine, hope you all have a wonderful day.
