Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I have fallen over twice as an adult, both times I slipped on wet smooth rocks in the fells. Broken arm one time and suspected broken coccyx the first time. Any recommendations for super grippy fell walking shoes / boots would be very welcome!

I fell over twice in a few weeks ๐Ÿ™ I reckon itโ€™s because Iโ€™m getting old ๐Ÿ˜‚ the last one was on Dec 7th & Iโ€™m only just back to normal sprained ankle and took a chunk out of my knee. Just hoping that things donโ€™t come in3โ€™s ๐Ÿคž

Usually I fall over on XC, or when running on footpaths, bridleways, especially when it's dim/dark. Having failing eyesight doesn't help either!

I have to say I've never fallen during the years that I ran on roads. It's only since I took to the fells that I've had trouble staying on my feet!

57.5 Degrees of Pain
I am a sure footed quick descender in hill (fell) races. I'm a regular faller on gentle woodland tracks. My all time classics are admiring the Arc de Triomph and face planting after tripping on a tiny tarmac ridge, and skinning my knees after tripping as I jogged very gently past the still empty starting corrals on Hopkinton Main Street before running Boston. UK best was probably tripping over my dog during a speed session last year.

I managed to fall twice on my run today, I was up in one of the loneliest corners of Nidderdale. Given the terrain, I feel I might be forgiven ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice faceplant at parkrun today. Running into a bright sun with a lot of tree roots underfoot and trying to stop the dog taking a route on the opposite side of a tree from me was too much for my brain to compute. Luckily where I landed was about the only soft section of an otherwise frozen mud and tarmac course

Plenty of falling over going on today at the Rombalds Stride race, pretty much all snow and ice. I surpassed myself by only going onto my arse once :-)

I saw the best falling over at Rombalds a couple of years ago
Speedy guy coming down to Burley Woodhead tripped, fell forward, somersaulted, jumped up and carried on running downhill - I gave him a round of applause :)
