Do toenails grow back?

I lost two after my first marathon but they did grow back eventually albeit over a few months.

Mine grow back and fall off, grow back all bumpy, then fall off. Give up now and always seem to have two yucky horrid toes/nails

I've never lost a nail. Nor a fingernail. Not even when I had my finger smashed by a hockey ball. (Yes it hurt).
