well I'm about 11 days into taking the iron tablets, today I did a 5m run and while I still had some breathlessness it certainly wasnt as bad... fingers crossed.
I'm also still suffering with fatigue but again its much improved. So glad I saw this thread.

Just a quick question for the doctors reading this thread. Is it possible to improve your 'iron levels' using another source like dessicated liver tablets? Iron tablets give me stomach truobles very quickly.

Ness i'm using Spatone, which is an Iron rich water, daily pack, just pour into orange juice. I've had NO stomach problems at all. Boots do 3 for 2 (one month supply per box) on this or Tesco do 14 day packs if you want to just try it out.Been on these 3 weeks now and I'm definitely less tired than I used to be especially after training. Others may have alternative non tablet ideas too.

No, I haven't tried different iron preps actually, ph. Haven't been to my doctors actually but didn't want to trouble them. I just guessed I might be suffering from anaemia cos of the breathlessness during faster paced runs and the nausea I got after completing a couple of the half marathons I've run. My times were slower too.

Reading this thread reminds me that I had low iron couple of years ago, it only started when I started running and I haven't been troubled with it in the 18 months I haven't run. There was talk of exercise induced asthma at one point, I'm not too bothered on slow steady running pace but if I have to sprint ie nearly missing train, it can affect my breathing and cause coughing fits for several weeks. Steady running seems to trigger coughing as well. They're trying me out with an acid relief tablet each morning in case it's reflux triggering the cough. Will scuttle off to Boots for some iron tablets as don't want to end up in that state again now I've got myself back out running.
