Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

1) It's a ridiculous decision - I'd ignore it.

2) "Gypsy's Warning" - would you mind explaining this one to us? Not sure I'm comfortable with that terminology.

Dooogs: I think it's a reference to old boooks, in which a "gypsy" (as was) would have a quiet word with someone that if they don't stop whatever they're doing, they'll be in for a nasty surprise, or suffer some consequence. The point being that the gyspy is a messenger rather than the enforcer.

I could imagine Thomas Hardy having gypsies who gave warnings, but can't think of any examples.

Does that help? Urbandictionary is useful - that's pretty much how I use the term.

Fair enough, RM - I wasn't familiar with the phrase.

The Office Manager tried that at my old company. When I, as a senior-ish member of HR, pointed out that a)coming in the back past the smokers was not an option I was going to take and b) we were trying to promote what my colleagues would insist on calling 'wellness', the whole idea was quickly forgotten.

So no YANBU. Tell them to politely to shove it WTSDS. :-)

back in the 80s, I worked in Leeds. We had to wear 'image wear' which was branded company-supplied suits and shirts. As a result of this, the Director in Charge (or DIC) didn't want us going out in this clothing of an evening getting pissed in pubs and bringing the company into disrepute.

Fair enough. But he also objected us to us coming or going from work in any other clothing - because we were also supposed to be projecting a positive image outside as well. He followed me into the toilets once as I got changed from jeans into my suit and I was torn off a strip. Being in my early twenties back then I didn't feel confident enough to tell him where to stick his image wear.

Jesus, he was a twat.

Perhaps another runner in the company dresses inappropriately* when running so you're all being penalised. Certainly unfair if other sweaty lycra'd bods are free to waft through.

*I'm thinking the visible bra / skimpy shorts type of thing

Probably the sight of a runner makes some manager feel guilty about their lack of fitness so they want to banish them.
