I occasionally do pyraminds of reps rather than sets, occasionally have my arms tucked right in, sometimes out wide, and very occasionally do decline, and they get very hard indeed. My reps per set vary from 15 to 25. I look at it as if it were running, if you did the same set of intervals all the time, you would get bored and your body woul get used ot it and no respond as well. Remember, mixed up with usually, half an hour or so of other things.

I introduced variations once I got to 10 strict, so lots really is relative! I have a short attention span. But currently I'm mostly sticking to strict - I've got a slightly sore shoulder, and I'm not sure the diamond press ups I was doing were helping. Don't want to make it a very sore shoulder! Pyramids sound interesting, but my multiple set sessions are part of a three set workout with 7 different exercises. Still working towards 3x15 in that. Like TBR, I really struggle to put on muscle and am rather liking what press ups are doing to my shoulders... 😂 |

If I stopped doing pressups for 2 weeks I would not be able to do 20 strict ones. Doing them daily I can do several sets of 30 reasonably comfortably throughout the day.

What's the lowdown on press-up bars. I bought them a few years ago and just took them out of the store cupboard. They let you go lower and keep a straight wrist if you want, but I can't remember if there are any genuine benefits over using the floor with the hand flat. amazon.co.uk

I’m currently doing them 4 days per week. On 2 of the days I have feet on a step, 6 x 10 with 1 minute rest. One set with arms tucked in, next set arms wider. So 3 sets of each. I then do a set of 10 and after each one move myself onto a side plank position for about 5 seconds. The other two days I’m currently doing a pyramid, but that will change at the end of the month. |

The pyramid is 2 4 6 8 10 8 6 4 2. But I do tucked then move to wide position, then 1 min between sets. So it’s actually 4 8 12 16 20 16 12 8 4. Wen I hit the 10 it gets harder work. This is just for a month then change. |

you're all much more scientific than me, I do sets of 20 or as close as I can manage, whenever I remember.

I would not say I was scientific...I sit there and think what have I done lately..then do something else.

100 I can do press ups with only one foot on the floor, but that has to be my right foot. This fits with other movements that expose asymmetry. I can do lots of lunges when my left foot is forward, but when it's back I'm wobbly. |
