Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Websites that are STILL doing that stupid double-negative thing to trip you up when they give you the "option" of being spammed to death. Trainline for example (my emphasis):

1) thetrainline would like to send you information relevant to your booking, cheap train fares and other special offers. If you would prefer *not* to receive this information, please *uncheck* this box.

2) Selected partners may want to send you special offers and exclusive discounts or information about their products and services. If you *would* like to receive this information, please *check* this box.

Thetrainline is one of the two most expensive ways to buy train tickets in the country. Don't touch it.

It grinds my gears no end.

The ad at the top of my screen is now for The Trainline and says "don't waste your money paying full fare at the station"

I feel a letter to the Advertising Standards Authority coming on, but there can be few more frustrating organisations to deal with.

For a start, they will say that the implication that thetrainline is cheaper than buying tickets elsewhere is not dishonest, it's an interpretation in my mind that I am wholly responsible for. Or worse than that.
