[I was in Waitrose last night. Oddly, whilst I was fine in Edinburgh, I may feel a bit uncomfortable in the more local one. But I just like to go and look at the other shoppers sometimes.]

Supermarket-tastic Dvorak. You could be a local supermarket guide for tourists or something ...
After my unusual foray to both Aldi and Lidl on Sunday, I conclude:
Aldi doesn't have much in stock and I reckon some of the cheese is good but you've got to know what you're buying.
Lidl is much posher esp as the local one has a bakery and a deluxe range. The Bellarom rich chocolate is really good.
But ... overall I'm disappointed and don't need to go there again for a long time if ever.
So it'll be back to my v local 2 places I normally use - Co-op and Waitrose. I feel warm and reassured just thinking about it. Lidl and Aldi are bleak.

Brilliant Red Squirrel I buy veggies, fruit and breads/pastries in lidl and the meats in Waitrose (I'm a meat snob) and then look for offers in co-op or tesco's. I do feel a bit out of place in the local Waitrose if I'm in my civvvies as everyone looks so posh. I dislike it when people state that they "assume" such and such in sentences, never assume anything as it makes an Ass out of you and Me

My local Waitrose has lovely, down-to-earth folk for staff and lots of bike loops (which are sometimes all utilised). There are quite a few of us in there wearing running and cycling gear and often muddy mountain-bikers, so no-one bats an eyelid. I remember a time when there were a fair few haughty types in there but I expect they order on line now.

People who don't have the courage of their convictions ie: people who say/do things consistently and when challenged to admit the logical extension of what they are saying/doing, start shuffling their feet and backpedalling.
On a different subject. Correspondents who adopt faux French accents when saying "Charlie Hebdo" as in "Sharleeee Hepdoooo"

Red Squirrel I am surprised at your decision that Lidl is posher than Aldi. Having shopped regularly at both, I would put Aldi at better quality than Lidl, but then again I haven't been in Aldi for some time.
Also, I feel the need to clarify - my OH is feeding my dog extra human treats, despite numerous requests not to. Nothing sexual is going on here...
However, we are both guilty of sniffing her feet. They smell funny.

Waitrose Sunningdale is wall to wall aggressive women in fur coats, it's truly horrific. The other Waitroses round here are just full of old people clutching free coffees like giant babies with sippy cups. Why they can't make their own fucking coffee at home is beyond me.
