Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

If it was a cycle path, I wouldn't run in it...

Yes it's shared. Runners, cyclists and dog walkers mostly :)

Does a shared path has a walking bit and a cycling bit? I thought "shared" meant the ones where there is no line separating pedestrians & cyclists.

Some are marked, some aren't. I mostly stay in the centre but expect to go left when someone's coming the other way, or a faster runner or cyclist is coming up behind.

Can i grizzle about cyclists who use the road when there's a perfectly good segregated cycle path? You complain there aren't enough cycle paths and then you dont' use the ones you have. Why???

Probably winded but there are some paths in Manchester where one side is designated for pedestrians and one side for cyclists

The one I am talking about has no markings at all.

It's quite a busy path with lots of bikes and it's annoying having to move out for runners who are on the wrong side of the road as you need to then also make sure you don't get wiped out by a bike coming from behind.

Why Duchess? Mostly because instead of spending money on an actual good cycle path the council try to hit their target of however many kilometres by putting up a sign saying that the footpath is now dual use.

Most of these adapted footpaths are safe at up to around 10mph, some are unsafe at less than that. I try to use the cycle path where I can but for a cyclist doing 20mph or more many of the dual use ones are dangerous and not fit for purpose.

Also if I see that someone is coming on another bike or with a pushchair and we will meet on a section of path that is only wide enough for one bike I might take to the road. In one place on my commute cyclists commonly leave the path so that they have right of way at a junction, just as any other vehicle travelling along the road has right of way at the junction but for some reason cycle paths don't - I mostly don't do this and stat in the path.

OB - you have to move out to overtake a runner either way, though? I agree with you (I think) and would run on the left, anyway.

Cyclists seem happy to be promiscuous about which side they stick to on the shared unmarked path I frequently use. So I find myself having to move to the middle to allow them through so they can stick to the RHS they're enjoying for some reason! *Bloody cyclists* ;-)
