I think it’s a lot to do with them not wanting to seem foolish for liking these people. People don’t like admitting mistakes. It’s sad really. We all make mistakes.

Also, their lies, misinformation, and withholding of information. I sincerely wish ill upon them all. Landlords are parasites.

Turns out son is paying market rate, but the lady is paying £150 per month less - landlord hasn't upped her rent in years and is very responsive to any issues.

When he died, she had to move to another cottage on the (agricultural) estate, but was allowed to live there rent-free for as long as she was able to (10+ years!).
