It was excruciatingly embarrassing, as every member of the audience knew it was 'splitting' and not 'spitting'. Only the bloke on stage didn't. Not quite as excruciating as when he recited his deathless, non-comic poetry a few minutes later.

No one laughed and he looked at us as if it was our fault. Apart from geographical changes his routine was 100% scripted, even the "ad-libs"
