Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I remember winding up my young nephew in a game of I Spy. Something beginning with "ar" - arm, something beginning with "el" - elephant, something beginning with "en" - encyclopaedia, etc. It made him very cross. :)

Going back before the Foxtrot Oscar stuff, drivers who, when their is a lane closure 400 or 800 metres away, straddle two lanes to stop vehicles using all lanes thereby making the queues longer. The general advice (from Police and Highways Agency) is to use all lanes when queuing and merge in turn.

Here's one that might be just me...

You know when you run the cold tap before filling a water glass (or a saucepan, or any other receptacle)? I always shut off the tap before placing said item under it and turning the tap back on to prevent the outside of the glass, pan, etc. from becoming wet. This prevents watermarks on tables and pans hissing on the hob.

No one else seems to do this? Drives me bonkers.

I'm the same, no point getting water on the outside of the receptacle too.

I have no idea whether I do that. I think the answer is, I don't run the tap first.

There hasn't really been a need to run the tap for about 50 years now (it was necessary when the use of lead pipes was still the norm). I still do it, but I slant the receptacle to avoid the outside of it getting wet - weird huh?

There may be no lead, put the water 'sitting' in the pipes is often warm, so you do it to run the water cold
