2018 there are 1076 men sub 3 and 1161 women 3:45 so not dissimilar again, though women seem to have coped with the heat better on that simplistic analysis.

Big differences though in absolute terms - 800 fewer men running sub 3.

Most of my GFAs have been gained overseas - 3X Thessaloniki (Greece) & 2X Rotterdam. First one was Edinburgh - does that count as overseas ;)

My result (PB) for Thessaloniki in 2015 appears on my Run Britain rankings - I think it's due to it being an IAAF bronze rated event?

Results from overseas events will get listed on RunBritain if you submit them regardless of any IAAF ratings, just those events are probably picked up automatically as they figure there will be a number of UK runners going over.

I noticed that now the ballott entry has opened there seems to have been an update to the wording ref Good For Age. It suggests you apply for the ballott if your qualifying time is 5 mins or less within the target - thereby implying that they think everyone 5 mins or more under the time should get in?

They only mention the 5mins on the ballot entry page, not actually on the GFA page. I read somewhere (Twitter, I think) that they are very confident that they are within 2mins (at most) of where they'll need to be to get to 6,000 places.

I received a reply from the VLM help desk. Clearly, they just underlined the criteria and the rationale. They avoided my critique regarding not giving people enough time by August to have another pop at GFA. So no real acknowledgement that they should have announced this in Autumn 2018 to allow for people to get a GFA for the 2019 race.

They did state they wanted to cap GFA numbers to allow more people in through the ballot.

It is a shame, as it is ultimately it was created as a race.

Forgive the obvious typos in last sentence. You get the point.

I don't believe their claim that GFA numbers significantly impact on the number of ballot entries they can allocate.

Chatting to a marathon volunteer at the Expo and they claimed there was 12000 GFA entries which I don't believe in the slightest. Not sure if that was a justification they had been fed by VMLM though in order to deal with complaints from us punters during the Expo.

Whether or not you believe them, I suppose it's the guaranteed places bit which constrained them most. It was an open invitation with no upper ceiling.
