Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hi, one of my friends has asked me how he can find his London Marathon results from 1990-1994 (pre Internet thingy), as he needs proof that he took part.

I’ve done a reasonable Googling & come up with nowt.

When I searched my 1999 Paris marathon a while ago, that took me ages for just one excel sheet, so I need inspiration for how to dig out his ancient London results.

Ta very much!

Did they print the results in one of the newspapers perhaps? More likely to be The Times than The Sun I guess 😉

I know when I did New York in 96 the results were in the newspaper and London tended to copy what NY did.

I think I've still got my edition of The Times from 1990 - showing all the finishers, but it's the kind of thing that is probably up in the loft.

Is there an online archive of previous editions?

He would maybe have run 3:10-3:30 or so - once he put down an estimate of 3:15 for Chicago marathon, but they misread it as 2:15 & sent him across the road to register with the Kenyans in the VIP registration, journalists interview & front starting pen too!

The Evening Standard used to print the results but I don't know when they started.

Early 1990s and possibly before and after, The Times printed the results over a few days.

Some, maybe all, public library membership gives access to the digitised records - I’m in there somewhere (not in a clown suit) !
